And here, I will help you find your ideal steamer.
That’s why in this post I’m going to review the best irons of 2019. In addition, there will also be a buying guide to give you an idea about the features.
So, let’s get started.
Why Get Steam Irons?
There are numerous benefits of using a steam iron instead of a regular one. Below, we are going to list some of them.
Our Best Steam Iron Reviews 2019
The number of available steam irons in the market continues to increase with each passing day. Choosing from the lots can be a bit overwhelming. Hence, here I will provide you with the reviews for the finest steam irons.
1. Rowenta 1700-Watt Micro Steam Iron
When it comes to iron, Rowenta is the first name that comes to my mind. For they have produced some of the best clothing irons in the last few years. Granted, their products are often on the expensive end of the spectrum, but they are usually worth the money.
The feature that makes the iron stand out is its 300+ steam holes. That means you can get a blast of steam while ironing clothes that are fragile and difficult to press. Keep in mind that if you use the burst of steam option too often, you’ll soon run out of the water. But that shouldn’t be a problem since refilling is easy as pie.
The weight of this device is perfect. It’s not too heavy to carry around, but heavy enough to iron without having to press down hard. Another feature that deserves some appreciation is the self-cleaning function. This function will keep the steam holes clear of any mineral build-up.
Our current world is full of distractions. WhatsApp or Facebook messenger can get you easily distracted during the ironing, which may result in a ruined shirt. In that case, the auto-off feature will come in really handy to avert the disaster as the device automatically shuts down if rested horizontally for 30 seconds.
The only issue with the iron is that it may start leaking water after a couple of years. Having said that, it’s extremely hard to find irons that don’t start spitting out water after a couple of years of use.
Not everyone has time to use distilled water, especially people that lead an extremely busy life. And this machine is ideal for those people since it allows you to use tap water. It saves you a lot of time, and is a life-saver when you are in a rush and need to iron shirts quickly.
2. BLACK+DECKER Digital Advantage Professional Steam Iron
To be termed as one of the best steam irons, one must have either some fascinating features or the ability to hold out for years. Fortunately, this one deserves the tag of “Best” on both counts. And what’s more, the machine is retailed under 50$ which is crazy.
I don’t believe you can find another steam iron that can heat up as quickly as this one. You can get this thing ready to iron within seconds. This feature will be a great help when you are short of time. Also, if you need to press collars, the tapered tip of the appliance will make things really easy for you.
The steam rate of this guy is simply unbelievable. It produces an insane amount of steam that will help you to remove wrinkles from hard-to-press garments. As a result, you can go through piles of clothes within minutes.
There might come a point in your life where you have run out of distilled water, and you urgently need to iron some clothes. At that point, the anti-calcium function of this device will be your savior as it allows you to tap water. That’s a huge plus for this iron.
Some consumers have complained about the placement of the settings dial. I must say that its placement is pretty awkward and can cause some minor inconveniences while operating the iron.
This guy auto-shuts off after being horizontal and vertical for 30 seconds and 8 minutes respectively. This will prove to be an exceedingly useful feature in the event of you getting distracted by something else during the process.
3. CHI (13101) Steam Iron with Titanium Infused Ceramic Soleplate & Over 300 Steam Holes
You’ll be very pleased with the reliability of this steam. It’s built remarkably well and ideal for withstanding years of daily abuse. Also, you can’t complain about its performance as it’s able to smooth wrinkles out nicely. Nevertheless, the price may give some people heartburn as it can be a bit expensive.
The first thing that impressed me is the ergonomic design and how easily this guy operates in your hands. Moreover, with the adjustable steam lever, you can set how much steam you want. But what makes this guy special is that it allows you to choose fabric type so as to adjust the temperature correctly.
Just like most of the high-end irons, this one is also pretty heavy. But that’s a good thing as it enables you to press fabrics such as denim and linen without bearing down on it. However, if you have weak arms, the additional weight may tire you a bit if used for extended periods.
The reservoir holds a good deal of water. That means you won’t have to refill the tank frequently. Furthermore, there are hundreds of steam holes on the bottom meaning the steam rate will be extremely high. It makes the chore of ironing a lot easier and less time-consuming.
As you might have noticed that the soleplate is made of ceramic. That means you will need to be extra careful with this iron so as not to use this on metals such as zippers. For using the iron on metals can ruin the ceramic coating.
Similar to my previous recommendations, this thing also features auto shutdown features. That will help you to go about ironing without worrying about leaving burn marks on garments.
4. BLACK+DECKER Easy Steam Compact Iron
Anyone looking for a decent quality iron at a really great price should give serious consideration to this iron. For despite being a D&B product, it comes at an incredibly low price. Admittedly, it can’t compete with the more expensive options, but it’s certainly worth the money.
It’s great at what an iron is supposed to do, which is getting wrinkles out of clothing. You will find it impossible to be not pleased with its performance as it produces a robust amount of steam. Bottom line; performance-wise, this one is a top steam iron.
You will notice that there’s no on/off switch. To turn the device off, you’ll have to unplug it. That’s a minor inconvenience and shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. In addition, the device heats up in no time, thus reducing downtime significantly.
People with a weak wrist often have a hard time operating an iron due to its heavy weight. However, that shouldn’t be the case with this one as it’s very light and, therefore easy to maneuver.
You might be asking, where’s the catch? Surely, no iron can be flawless at such a low price. Well, there’s an issue with the device, though it’s not something really big. This thing doesn’t feature the adjustable steam option meaning you won’t be able to set the steam according to the fabric.
Nonetheless, I love the fact that they have included the auto shut-down feature. Moreover, according to the manufacturer, this one is anti-drip. Looking at the price, I’d take the claim with a grain of salt.
5. Rowenta DW8080 Professional Micro Steam Iron Stainless Steel Soleplate with Auto-Off
Another amazing iron from the Rowenta. What’s interesting about this iron is that unlike most of the irons, this one is made in Germany instead of China. So, you can rest assured that only high-quality parts have been used to make this thing.
There’s no point for guessing the best attribute of this thing. It’s clearly the fact that it has more than 400 steam holes which deliver a burst of steam on demand. As a result, you can use its robust flow of steam to press fabrics such as linen and denim.
Having said that, it’s worth mentioning that when set at low settings the device doesn’t manage to produce much steam. For this reason, most of the time you will find yourself operating the machine at high speed.
We all love to use tap water for irons. However, that could prove to be disastrous for some device. Fortunately, that’s not the case with this one since it doesn’t require distilled water to produce the steam. As a result, you can fill the reservoir directly from the sink.
Another impressive feature of the device is its gigantic water tank. It can hold an insane amount of water meaning you won’t have to frequently refill the reservoir. And what’s more, thanks to the transparent reservoir, you can easily see how much water is left in the tank.
You can use this thing to iron tapestry as the device supports vertical ironing. One thing that would have improved the product further is a longer cord. Measuring only 7 feet, the power cord seems a bit short.
6. Beautural 1800-Watt Steam Iron with LCD Screen, Double Ceramic Coated Soleplate
You can’t help but love the Beautural irons. They are just amazing at providing value for money as they come with some really useful features. We’ll get to the features later. For now, I assure you that you'll get your money’s worth out of this one.
When you pick this thing up, you’ll instantly realize how heavy this thing is. And that’s a feature to love as you won’t have to exert yourself to press fabrics such as denim. That said, if you intend to conduct long ironing sessions, it could be a bit tiring to operate such heavy objects.
If you can’t see the water level during the ironing, it can be a bit of a problem. You’ll always be thinking about the water running out mid-way. But that shouldn’t be a problem with this guy as it incorporates a see-through reservoir. On top of that, the reservoir is quite large and can hold a substantial amount of water.
My only complaint with the device is that the cord is pretty short. The 6 feet power cord isn’t long enough for most of the people and may require you to use an extension cord. However, the cable is pretty robust and won’t be easily damaged.
The best part is its performance. You’ll surely get benefited from the vast amount of steam it puts out. Also, the steam flows steadily without spitting drops of water on your clothes.
The steam dial is great and allows you to set the steam rate according to various type of fabrics. You’ll also like the automatic shut-down feature. It’ll help you to prevent leaving scorch marks on the clothing surfaces.
7. Maytag M400 Speed Heat Steam Iron & Vertical Steamer with Stainless Steel Sole Plate
This one should be a great buy for people that want an iron of good quality without spending a lot of money. I won’t exactly call this inexpensive, but the price is certainly affordable. Moreover, this thing is well-constructed and is expected to hold up for years.
Unlike some cheap retro-looking steam irons, this guy doesn’t spurt out water droplets during steaming. So, you can go about pressing without worrying about the iron leaving water marks on our clothes. Furthermore, this guy is incredibly easy to use, hence full marks for user convenience.
It’s very frustrating when irons take ages to heat up. So, you need a device that won’t eat up your time by taking too long for getting warm. And this one excels in this department as it gets ready super-fast.
One little annoyance is the awkward filling position of the water tank. You have to keep the steel plate lying on a surface to fill this thing up. That means first you have to turn the device off and then refill the reservoir. To make matters worse, the reservoir isn’t very large and may require you to refill multiple times.
The filtering system is a solid wow. As a result, you’ll be freely able to use tap water. That’s a huge plus as you won’t always have distilled water to use for steaming.
You can also do vertical steaming with this one. That means you can do curtains and other hanging garments now. Aesthetically, this one looks quite nice. I know, looks don’t matter when it comes to irons, but it’s a bonus if the device is good-looking.
8. Black+DECKER IR16X One-Step Garment Steam Iron with Stainless Nonstick Soleplate
Unlike other inexpensive irons, this one doesn’t spit water everywhere. That’s something I really value in an iron. If a device leaks water, there’s a very good chance that it will stain your clothes, which can be catastrophic in some cases. This feature alone is worth its price.
Another feature that you will find useful is the large opening of the water tank. It will help you to refill the reservoir quickly and cut down downtime drastically. The tank is relatively large, which will also help you to prolong the ironing session.
This thing allows you to alternate between distilled and sink water. But I’d advise against using tap water. You’d do well to fill the tank with distilled water only if you want this guy to live a long life.
Wight of the device can be really important depending upon your arm strength and how long you are gonna iron. If you are gonna press a lot of clothes, then you can do without the extra weight. And this one can be the ideal option in this scenario as it weighs very little compared to the other options.
One downside of this thing is that the auto shut-off feature engages too soon. As a result, you have to turn off the device again and wait for it to get warm. On the upside, this will help you to keep your clothes scorch-mark free.
What’s also impressive is that it can pour out a ton of steam. That means items that are usually very difficult to press can be ironed with relative ease. More importantly, you can adjust the steam and dictate how much steam you want the machine to give off.
9. Hamilton Beach Steam Iron with Retractable Cord, 3-Way Auto Shutoff &Durathon Soleplate (19803)
Don’t be surprised if the brand name seems a bit unfamiliar. Among all the steam iron reviews, this one comes from the newest brand. That doesn’t necessarily mean they do not know their business. In fact, some of the features they offer are on par with the high-end irons.
If you are someone who values durability the most, then you will love this guy. For this one is made to last really, really long. In short, this one has a solid body, and you can expect years of service from this one.
There’s not a single bad thing I can say about its performance. I’d give it full marks for the incredible amount of steam it puts out. Also, the flow of steam is reliable and won’t cause any problems for you.
Refilling is super easy; you just need to flip open the lid on the top and pour water. Besides, the water tank is reasonably big and can accommodate enough water for an entire session of ironing.
If the weight of the device bothers you, I’m afraid this iron isn’t for you. For this thing is quite heavy and will take substantial strength to handle it. However, thanks to its heavy weight and colossal steal plate, you can press clothes quickly.
Worried about the leakage of water? No need. For with this device, you won’t have water dripping on your shirts. That’s why you can go about pressing shirts without any worries. Another thing that I find impressive about the machine is that it doesn’t take much time to warm up.
10. Sharkninja Steam Iron, Blue, 3 Count
Sharkninja is known for making quality steam irons at a budget price. Keeping with their impeccable reputation, they have once again offered something that will interest every prospective iron buyer who is looking for a quality device that doesn’t cost a bomb.
If the iron is too light, it may not work well. However, if it’s too heavy, it might be too difficult to pick it up. Luckily, the device itself is a good weight, not too heavy but heavy enough to iron garments properly.
Its ergonomic design makes the machine more appealing. Kudos to the makers as they have done everything that they could to make this device comfortable to use. What’s also impressive is the 8-inch steel plate which is quite large compared to the others. As a result, you won’t have to go over the same wrinkles twice.
You might be wondering about how big the water tank is. Well, I won’t lie to you, the reservoir isn’t as big as expected. I think they should improve the reservoir so as to reduce the downtime of the machine.
Just because it falls on the cheaper end of the spectrum doesn’t necessarily mean that low-quality parts have been used to build the iron. When you look at the machine, you’ll realize that the makers were uncompromising in terms of quality.
A major advantage of this appliance is that it heats up in a short time. Once you plug the device in, you can get started within a short period. So, this gives this thing an edge over other similarly priced irons.
What to Look for Before Buying a Steam Iron In 2019?
Apart from the steam iron reviews, you also need a buying guide to find the right steam iron. That’s why here I will talk about some of the features that you need to take into account before settling on an iron.
The first question you need to ask is, how heavy is the iron?
Now there’s no hard and fast rule for picking the best steam irons when it comes to weight.
While you may prefer the heavy ones, others may opt for lightweight irons.
Now, both have advantages and disadvantages. Let’s discuss both heavy and lightweight irons below.
Heavy Steam Irons
There’s no point in buying an iron if it can’t put out enough steam. That’s why you need to ensure that it can generate enough steam for various types of clothes.
It would also be nice if the device features the option of adjustable steam. That way, you can set the steam rate as per the nature of the fabrics.
Anyone who is familiar with ironing is well-aware that it’s extremely frustrating to refill midway through the pressing.
It also increases downtime significantly.
For this reason, you need to buy a steam iron that comes with a relatively large water tank.Another thing that you should keep in mind that, if the reservoir is transparent, then you’ll always be able to see how much water is left in the reservoir.
Nobody buys irons thinking that it will last a few months. The least expectation one can have is that it will last a year.
So, go for an iron that’s well made and can endure all the rough use. If the device is well constructed, then there’s a high chance that it will last a very long time.
In this case, going with renowned brands is a good idea. For they have a loyal customer base and are unlikely to compromise with the build quality of the iron.
Auto Shut-Off Feature
We iron out clothes to keep them in good condition. However, a little inattentiveness during the ironing can leave burn marks on your clothes.
To prevent such scenarios, most of the makers include an auto shutoff feature which shuts the device off if it remains unmoved for a certain period of time.
Needless to say, you need to get a device that comes with an auto shut-off feature.
In this fast-paced world, we want something that will get started quickly.
Otherwise, we may lose a great deal of our time, which in modern times can be costly.
Therefore, make sure the device doesn’t take much long to warm up.
While you are looking for an ironing device, keep an eye out for machines with ergonomic design.
You need to notice if the steam dial is placed conveniently, whether the opening of the tank is big enough and how easy it is to fill the tank.
Distilled or Tap Water
It’s not possible to have access to distilled water all the time. So, at times, you may find yourself being forced to use tap water.
Thus, you should find an iron that supports sink water.
Apart from these key features, there are also some features that aren’t a must-have but certainly useful.
For example, a long power cord will save you the trouble of using an extension cord. If the cord is adequately long, then you can plug the device into the nearest outlet easily.
Another feature that can be really helpful is the ability to do the vertical pressing. It will enable you to keep all the tapestries in the house in good condition.
Furthermore, if the plate is large, you can press garments in a much shorter time. You also need to consider the plate materials as they may require certain precautions. For example, you can’t use ceramic plates on metals. Otherwise, they could get damaged.
How to Use a Steam Iron?
The steam iron reviews won’t be of much help when learning how to use iron. To help you out, here I will show you how to press clothes with a steam iron in a proper manner.
Step 1: First, gather all your materials before you start ironing. Then sort them according to the fabrics as different fabrics demand a different method of ironing.
Step 2: Once you have all the clothes sorted out, lay the cloth over a flat surface. To protect clothes that are delicate, you can put some old garments over them.
Step 3: Fill the water tank completely as you don’t want to refill in the middle of ironing session.
Step 4: Check if you have secured all the components of the device correctly. Otherwise, it may start leaking water droplets during ironing.
Step 5: Adjust the steam rate according to your need.
Step 6: Now turn the device on, and start steaming. Then get wrinkles out of clothing by pressing the device on the clothes.
Step 7: Once you are done, turn the iron off. But before you put it away, let the machine cool down for a while.
How to Clean a Steam Iron and Its Holes?
Though cleaning is an easy task, we often tend to avoid it out of laziness. But it can have a bad effect on the iron. Therefore, it’s imperative that you clean the device from time to time. Now, let’s talk about how you can clean the steam iron.
Step 1: At first you need to blend white vinegar and salt. Now apply the solution over your steam iron plate. Then use a wet cloth to wipe the plate surface.
Step 2: Use the same solution to clean the steam holes. To reach the holes, you may employ a cotton swab.
Step 3: Next, you have to prepare another solution. This time, you’ll use clean water instead of salt. The ration between white vinegar and water should be 1:1.
Step 4: Pour the solution into the water tank of the device until one third of it is full.
Step 5: Set the steam settings at high and start steaming. Keep steaming until you run out of steam.
Step 6: Once the tank is empty, fill the water tank with clean water. Then keep steaming until you run out of water.
Step 7: After draining the tank, put it away.
First of all, thanks for reading the entire article patiently.
And now, having read the steam iron reviews, you need to make a decision. If you want to find out what features your ideal steam iron should have, then the buying guide can give you an idea.
